Ingress Protection | IP Rating Chart | IP Code

What is Ingress Protection (IP) :

Ingress protection ratings or IP ratings check with the level of protection provided by an electrical enclosure, against solids and liquids. Ingress Protection Founded by IEC/EN 60529, the standard was developed from the International Electrotechnical Commission and Has Been Known all Around the World.

The IP number is always 2 digits, which is an Ingress Protection rating based on how much it can bear the losses from all product solids and water.

IP stands for Ingress Protection as well as the numbers connected to the IP code possess a particular score. The first number signifies the selection of impact from Solid object can defy during routine use. The next digit, on the other hand, denotes protection when subjected to various types of fluids and moisture like sprays, water, slips, submersion, etc.

First IP Number | Solid Second IP Number | Liquid
0- No Protection. 0 – No Protection.
1 – Protection from solid foreign objects of 50 millimeters or Higher. 1 – Protection from vertically falling drops of water.
2 – Protection from solid objects Around 12 milliliters such as Finger. 2 – Protection against  15 Degree falling drops of water.
3 – Protection against solid objects more than 2.5 milliliters such as a screwdriver. 3 – Protection Against 60 degree Angle Spray of Water.
4 – Protection against solid objects more than 1 millimeter such as Wire. 4 – Protection Against water spray from all side Directions. Limited Entrance permitted.
5 – Limited entrance of dust permitted. 5 – Protection Against Medium Pressure Jet Water Spray from All Direction.
6 – Totally Protected Against Dust. No Dust Entrance. 6 – Protection Against High-Pressure Jet Water Spray from All Direction.
7 – Protection from immersion in water between 15 cm to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
8 – Protection from immersion in water for a long time period under Pressure.

Example: 1

What does IP67 stand for?

IP67

If Any Product has IP Rating 67 so IP first Latter is 6.  Means this Product Totally Protected Against Dust. No Dust Enter Inside. And this Product IP Second Letter is 7 means this product withstands from immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Example: 2

If Any Product has IP Rating 55 so IP first Latter is 5.  Means In this product, dust will go in very low or limited. And this Product IP Second Letter is 5 means this product can withstand medium pressure jet water for all direction and it avoids any kind of damage to the product.

Example : 3

What does Ingress Protection 20 stand for?

If Any Product has IP Rating 20 so IP first Latter is 2.  This means this Product has Protection from solid objects Around 12 milliliters. And this Product IP Second Letter is 0 means this Product has No Protection against Water or Any Liquid.
